There is famous saying:

“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” ― Jon Kabat-Zinn

What’s happening in the world is probably not under our control but we can still learn to surf by ‘peace of mind’. As the Budhha said “the mind is everything what u think you become”. To make full use of your mind, you need to empty all bullshit and fill-up with the productive thoughts.

Let’s explore a set of ‘relaxation techniques’ which can be done in 30 minutes, everyday.

Let’s go back to ancient times. At some point between the 1st and 5th century CE, Patañjali began to codify the ancient, meditative traditions practiced throughout India. He recorded techniques nearly as old as Indian civilization itself in 196 manuals called the Yoga Sutras. These texts defined yoga as the ‘yoking’ or restraining of the mind from focusing on external objects in efforts to reach a state of pure consciousness.

Bhagavad Gita defined the best way to do Yoga in Chapter 6, Verse 11–12

To practice yoga, one should go to a secluded place and should lay kusa-grass on the ground and then cover it with a deerskin and a soft cloth. The seat should neither be too high nor too low and should be situated in a sacred place. The yogi should then sit on it very firmly and should practice yoga by controlling the mind and the senses, purifying the heart and fixing the mind on one point.

Let me add something to make it more productive, you need to do three things simultaneously.

Physical postures, Breathing exercises, and Spiritual contemplation.

Science behind it :

Physical postures: Twisting your body into yoga’s physical postures stretches multiple muscle groups. In the short term, stretching can change the water content of these muscles, ligaments, and tendons to make them more elastic. Over time, regular stretching stimulates stem cells which then differentiate into new muscle tissue and other cells that generate elastic collagen. Frequent stretching also reduces the body’s natural reflex to constrict muscles, improving your pain tolerance for feats of flexibility.

Breathing exercises: Yoga’s mix of physical exercise and regimented breathing has proven similarly therapeutic for lung health. Lung diseases shrink the passageways that carry oxygen, while weakening the membrane that brings oxygen into the blood. But breathing exercises like those found in yoga relax the muscles constricting those passageways and improve oxygen diffusion. Increasing the blood’s oxygen content is especially helpful for those with weak heart muscles who have difficulty pumping enough oxygen throughout the body.

Spiritual contemplation: Spiritual contemplation is taking the time to practice letting go of our busy mind, our busy life and being with the simple peace of our heart. Here there is a vastness to be with and receive. Simple peace invites our awareness to let go of all the baggage that weighs us down and enjoy our lightness of being. So it may be that spirituality is a kind of psychological tool we use just to get ourselves into our natural state. Perhaps quantum physics or other disciplines will offer other revelations in the coming years, but till then, we have to look to our current ways of understanding — psychology and neuroscience. Which may really be all we need. But for some, part of the beauty may be that it is still a mystery, and we can’t quite explain it just yet. (Source: Forbes)

There is evidence to suggest that yoga can help reduce the stress which ultimately leads to a better productivity. According to me ‘Calmness’ is a super power for the human being.
